The Expensive one

One night at the Grand Eastin Sathorn in Bangkok cost the same as two weeks in Laos guesthouses combined.

A confused checkin due to someone forgetting their passport (hint: it wasn't me), and a slight elevator mishap later, we found ourselves on the 28th floor overlooking the Chao Phraya River.

Fitting in with style

The food was incredible and I, unfortunately neglected to bring my camera for that part of the evening.
Sadly the life of luxury was shortlived, but I hadn't quite finished living the high life.

Following a wonderful month back on Koh Rong (during which I became legally entitled to a drink in the US), and a brief stay in Thailand I headed to Laos.
Laos happens to be the one country on this planet that dislikes Canadians– which I gathered from the fact that we have the most expensive visa on the list.

Of course, having just left an island for another island I figured it was only fitting to head to the 4000 islands.

I'm incapable of writing a proper "goodbye Southeast Asia" post that expresses just how amazing the trip, and all of those I've met along the way, have been, so instead here's one last post from Southeast Asia:

If you haven't seen my last blogpost here's a summary: My dad and I met up in Nepal to go trekking.

Still in the Himalayas – Days 114  to Day 128 (this post picks up on day 123 )

On the way back down we stopped at a nunnery where a lovely Dutch woman and Tibetan Healer/Nun were living with a number of young nuns and a few other visiting children.

They invited us on a picnic which was to be “up where that white flag is.” When I hesitated Bernice mentioned it was an amazing place for photos– she had me figured out.
We agreed.
The flag in question turned out to be nearly an hour of straight up.
When we started Dad had a backpack. By the time we reached the top it had passed on to one of the young nuns and they had instead given him a couple of walking sticks.
As promised however, the photos were wonderful.

So I’ll start this off with a bit of an explanation as that was sorely lacking in my last post:

This past month [this was written a few weeks ago] saw my dad into his 60’s, and since that’s a big number– and by big I mean momentous, not that it’s a large number, although to be fair, it is– we figured, hey, let’s do something awesome!
Originally the idea had been to head to South Africa for a photo safari but numerous things got in the way of that plan and in the end we decided to go trekking in Nepal.

This is my final post for Cambodia. Don't worry, it's a long one.

Kampot and Kep – Day 69 to Day 71

Took a day tour via tuk tuk to visit the salt fields, pepper plantation, caves, and Kep's crab market...
